Californians should reject this MAGA attempt to rig California elections:

  • Trump endorsed Prop 39 in January 2025 and it is another of his voter suppression tactics.
  • Prop 39 is the brainchild of MAGA activists like Carl Demaio and the so-called Reform California network, who have a long history supporting campaigns to help Trump and dismantle voting rights.
  • It targets working Californians and communities of color, making it harder for citizens to perform their constitutionally granted right to vote.
  • Prop 39 would ultimately make it harder for citizens to vote.
  • Taxpayers would foot the bill— up to hundreds of millions of dollars every year in new state and county costs, just to administer Trump’s endorsed voter suppression scheme

Proposition 39 is a Trump-backed attack on every Californian citizen’s right to vote.

If passed, Prop 39 would impose unnecessary and burdensome barriers for citizens to cast their vote:

  • Voters casting their ballot in-person would be restricted from doing so unless they hand over their government-issued ID.
  • Voting by mail would require that voters write the last four digits of their Social Security number or other government-issued identification number on the outside of their mail ballot.
  • Citizens who don’t supply this personal identification information would be prohibited from exercising their constitutional right to vote.

What is Prop 39?

California Proposition 39, the Voter Identification, Citizenship Verification, and Registered Voter List Administration Initiative, is a Trump-backed initiative that requires voters to present a government-issued ID for in-person voting, or to provide the last four digits of a government-issued ID designated during voter registration for mail-in voting.

Prop 39 would create additional barriers to participate in elections, even though registering to vote is already a secure process. This proposition is a direct attack on voting rights—especially for voters of color, young and elderly voters, and disabled voters—who are eligible to vote, but may not have the identification that Prop 39 would make necessary.

A vote for NO on Prop 39 would keep elections accessible, and elections will be just as secure as they always have been.

Would Prop 39 make Elections more secure?

California's elections are already secure. Donald Trump claims there is widespread election fraud. Nationally, voter fraud accounts for 0.000043% of total votes. This is not a valid reason to re-do California's election process and cause issues for millions of California voters.

How much will Prop 39 cost Californians to implement?

If passed, Prop 39 will cost California taxpayers up to hundreds of millions of dollars. There are no plans for new revenue to pay for these associated costs.

Does Prop 39 change Vote by Mail?

If implemented, Prop 39 would require the last four digits of your social security number or a government-issued ID number on the outside of your mail-in ballot. If these numbers do not match what you were originally registered as, your vote will not be counted.

Does Yes on Prop 39 mean I support Voter ID?

Prop 39 is about more than just producing a driver's license or government-issued ID. It's about re-registering every Californian to vote, creating additional barriers to vote, and believing in election fraud that doesn't exist.
